Our tours

On this page you have a list of tours you can book with us.

 We are a small company and we do not have a webstore for now. You can book and confirm your tour via email, whatsapp (+358 40 541 7774) or message us in Instagram @backcountrylapland .


Our tours described here can be booked mostl of the days and the departure time is flexible. Most of them are 120€ per person. 


 Each tour is minimum 2 people, and maximum 8 people.

You can book the tours privately, if you book for a minimum of 4 people, or pay for a minimum 4 people.


If you want us to plan and book tours for your whole holiday, that is also possible. We have a lot of experience designing a perfect set of activities for different type of needs.

We cooperate with travel agencies to provide 3 days to 7 days activity packages.

 

Our most popular activities

Snowshoeing 

  • 2 - 3 hours
  • Pick-up included from Pyhä or Kemijärvi (other locations on request)
  • English, French, German, Spanish or Finnish guiding
  • Snacks and hot drinks included
  • Snowshoes included
  • On request: extra clothing,winter boots suitable for  snowshoeing, tripods for photography and flashlights
  • Our Aurora Snowshoe activity is organised so that the guide is always choosing the location accordingly to the probability to see northernlights.

Forest Skiing/Altai Skiing

Forest skiing with OAC sliding snowshoes  is the best way to discover the untouched forests. Suitable for beginners and also for those who are experienced in skiing.


  • 2 - 3 hours tour 
  • Hot drinks and snacks included
  • Pick up from Pyhä or Kemijärvi included (other locations from a request)
  • OAC ski rental included
  • On request it is also possible to borrow extra clothes and winter boots
  • Can be organised in the evening as aurora watching activity!

Ice-Fishing

Ice-fishing tour on the famous Kemijoki - the longest and biggest river in Finland.

  • 2 - 3 hours tour
  • 120€ /person
  • Pick-up possible from Pyhä and Kemijärvi
  • On request it is also possible to borrow extra clothes and winter boots
  • You'll learn basics on ice-fishing and if and when you will catch a fish, you can also keep it for eating! 

Hike and 
wilderness skills

This tour will teach you the basics of wilderness skills such as fire making. You will also learn about things that can be eaten in the nature and you will make your own tea of the things picked on the tour.

Cross-country
Skiing

  • 2 - 3 hours tour

  • Traditional cross-country skiing on an established ski tracks
  • Ski rental included, poles and shoes included

Snow Sculpting

  • 2 - 3 hours tour
  • suitable for all ages, children but it's also fun in only adult groups
  • 120€ / person

Aurora Hunting
With a car /van

  • 2 - 4 hours tour
  • 200€ /person
  • minimum booking 2 people
  • includes driving to various destinations for spotting aurora borealis
  • includes hot drinks and snacks
  • includes photos taken by the guide
  • includes introduction how to photograph auroras with your own devices

Husky mushing

We offer 10 kilometers husky sledding on a small family-run husky farm in the wilderness of lapland. 


This is a place where you can try what it feels to do husky mushing. Husky mushing is the sport of driving the husky sled.


this experience with its remote location makes truly a unique day trip with the drive to the farm, scenic stops on the way and the time at the farm. 


after the mushing, you get to pet the dogs. price 230€ / person.

Visit to a 
reindeer farm

  • 2 - 3 hours tour
  • 120€ /person
  • we will visit a reindeer farm and you can feed the reindeers
  • you will hear about the reindeer herding as a tradition in lapland
  • guiding in english, french, german or spanish included
  • for beginners
  • pick-up from pyhä, luosto or kemijärvi included

Gear rental

You can rent our gear from our warehouse in Tapionniemi (20 minutes drive from Pyhä or Kemijärvi) or we can bring your gear to your destination from an extra payment.


  • Cross-country skiing set (skies, poles, shoes) 30€/day
  • Sliding snowshoes (OAC Forest skis/altai) 30€/day
  • Winter clothing set, warm clothes+shoes 30€/day
  • Warm shoes (Sorel or similar) 15€ first day, +10€ extra days
  •  Snowshoes 40€ / 2-7 days
  •  Packrafts (in the summer only)
